Find out more about the history of the village of Glavatartsi: The village of Glavatartsi is situated in the heart of the eastern Rhodopes, at an altitude of 368m, on a hill rising between two arms of the Kardzhali dam. For thousands of years this Rhodope region has been the cradle of different civilizations and cultures. Here were Thracians, Hellenes, Romans, Slavs, Proto-Bulgarians, Byzantines and Latins. From more recent history, data dating back to the annexation of Kardzhali and the district to the Principality of Bulgaria in 1912, show that the village had 40 buildings, 50 households and 240 inhabitants living in 5 neighborhoods. The name of the village was Emir-Oglar. In 1934 it was renamed Glavatari and in 1966 Glavatartsi. Well-developed and more densely populated was the neighborhood near the river bank. Arda. In 1957, the construction of the Kardzhali dam began and the population started to move to the present part of Glavatartsi and to the nearby village of Kardzhali. Enchets. The beginning of the new construction started with the building of the Kardzhali Forestry Villa in 1984. By 1990 there were already 6 buildings, mostly weekend villas. During the period 1989-1995 the village almost became depopulated, after which it began to fill with new life. Residents of Kardzhali, attracted by the beauty of nature, the tranquillity and the proximity of the area to the town, made it an attractive place to live or a haven for weekends.
